ghuttasplit green gram / white lentil soup
Ingredientswhite lentil/split green gram - 1 cupvegetable oil - 1-2 tablespoonscumin seeds - 1 teaspoongreen chillies - one half tablespoon , crushedturmeric - a pinchsalt to tastesugar - 1 teaspoonwater - 1 cup cilantro to garnishfresh/dessicated coconut - 1-2 tablespoons Recipe1. Roast split green gram adding few drops of vegetable oil until the color changes to light brown.2. Pressure cook roasted green gram adding enough water until soft. When done, mash the cooked lentils.3. Grind roasted cumin seeds (1 tablespoon) along with grated coconut, if possible grind it using mortar and pestle for the coarse effect.4. Heat vegetable oil in a sauce pan and add cumin seeds (not the mixture of cumin seeds and coconut) . Then add crushed green chillies, a pinch of turmeric and mashed lentils. Also add water, salt, sugar and mixture of cumin seeds and coconut. Mix well and cook for 5-7 minutes. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot with rice.
